Biocompatibility Dental Materials Testing
As part of our commitment to your overall wellness, we are proud to offer the highest standards of biocompatibility materials testing in partnership with Elisa/ACT Biotechnologies. We provide you with a test kit which you will complete and return directly to Elisa/ACT Biotechnologies. Upon analysis, you will receive a comprehensive report which simply states whether the dental materials are highly reactive, moderately reactive, or least reactive. This information allows you to learn about and avoid dental toxicity by using the least amount of reactive materials possible. Read more about the importance of biocompatibility testing.
If you have chemical sensitivities or would like more information, please inquire at your next appointment or call the office, 404-233-1102.
Dental Pure Water System: A New Type of Purified Air and Water System
Making sure that we provide pure water and air for patients is important to us and we have achieved reaching a record-setting level. A company, Dental Pure Water, Inc. has been able to take water and air quality for dental patients to unprecedented levels of purification, 99.999999% pure! Atlanta Dental Wellness uses Dental Pure Water’s distillation/high heat water purification system in our office. All water used in our office is 99.999999% “sterile” and securely protected to stay that way with an entire office system of anti-backflow valves that eliminates any cross-contamination. This system includes all water delivered to patients at the dental chairs and eliminates the need for any chemical disinfectants in the water used for dental treatment.
Even air delivered to patients is purified to 99.999999% “sterility” before it is used during dental treatment procedures. Dirt, oil, bacteria, and mercury vapors are eliminated using our FDA cleared Dental Pure Air System.
Dr. Cann invested in this system during the construction of her Piedmont Center office in 2006. The system surpasses standard sterilization methods and only a few of these systems exist in dentistry today. As Dr. Cann says, “I’m charged with the responsibility to enhance the health of my patients. So at the very least, I need to provide the greatest safeguards to protect what is precious to all of us… our health.”
Dental Ozone
Dental Ozone treatment is the latest in minimally invasive dentistry (actually non-invasive) and a safe, effective aid in the treatment of oral infections. There are two ways to deliver ozone treatment; ozonated water and pure oxygen/ozone gas. It is a powerful antibacterial agent and therefore works well in dentistry since most dental disease has a bacterial component (both decay and gum disease). Using the two agents in combination allows the Dentist to aid in the treatment of oral infections with only oxygen and water! The International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology (IAOMT) has reviewed and accepted Oxygen/Ozone in Dentistry as scientifically valid.
Air Filters/Purifiers
Have you ever walked into a room where “something made you sneeze”? At Atlanta Dental Wellness, we strive to make sure that doesn’t happen during your visit to our office. Treatment areas and reception areas house multiple styles of air filters and purifiers (not fresheners!) to assure the cleanest air environment and to support the health, particularly, of our patients who suffer from allergies and environmental sensitivities. Additionally, we respectfully request that patients do not wear fragrances to dental visits. Even though they may smell delightful, they are known to easily aggravate sensitive immune systems.
Amalgam Exhaust Units
Patients often inquire about our method for mercury and mercury vapor removal. If you’ve ever suffered from mercury toxicity, you can appreciate the importance of a proper exhaust system. Our office adheres to a rigorous protocol established by the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology.
Fragrance-Free, please.
Concerned for our patients with sensitivities to fragrances, we request no perfumes or colognes be worn to dental appointments. We appreciate your support and understanding.
DIAGNOdent
Have you ever watched your dentist struggle to determine if what looks like a cavity is really a cavity or just a “sticky tooth”? Our wonderful DIAGNOdent technology is an adjunct to the clinical and radiographic detection of dental decay and we are thrilled to offer patients the advantage of this new instrument. The DIAGNOdent is a laser-probe handpiece that uses 1-milliwatt, 655-nanometer wavelength light for the detection of caries. It works by shining pulsed light of a known wavelength onto the tooth surface via specially-designed tips. After a baseline measurement of the patient’s healthy tooth structure is made, the tip is placed on questionable areas of the tooth and slowly rotated or rocked with a pendulum-like motion. The unit’s internal processor interprets changes in the level of fluorescence of the light emitted back by the tooth as indicative of caries (dental decay). A numerical reading is displayed on the front of the DIAGNOdent and an audible signal is sounded.
Digital Radiography
Our office embraced digital technology in 1999. Reducing radiation by as much as 90% while providing greater image enhancement features for a more certain diagnosis, digital technology has not only bettered the technical practice of dentistry but provides a level of uncompromised patient safety.
